The spring festival of Holi originates in India, but has grown popular in major cities around the world from Madrid to London for it’s celebration of unity, joy, and of course throwing vibrantly colored powder on everyone. In the NYC area, there are lots of ways to join the colorful celebration from rocking out to live bands in Brooklyn to cruising on the Hudson, but if you want to experience Holi with a little less hipsters and more families then check out the NYC Holi Hai Spring Color Festival. Located on Governors Island, this outdoor fest is less crowded and fun for you and your kids with a children’s area that includes giant bounce houses and coloring activities. There’s also a variety of food vendors so you can enjoy the authentic tastes of India while watching live performances on stage. This event doesn’t allow outside colors, so you know everyone’s throwing the same naturally dyed cornstarch that is safe if little one’s ingest the powder.
